ed Debevic’s - world famous diner since 1984
Alright… so what is ed debevic’s all about?
The notorious Ed Debevic’s was opened in 1984, and has been renowned as Chicago’s most famous retro themed diner ever since. Famously known for its snarky service & 1950s throwback decor, Ed’s quickly became a fun & unique staple in the culinary world. After closing its doors in 2015, Ed Debevic’s re-opened at a sparkly new Streeterville location in 2021. Buckle your seatbelts, kiddos, because things are about to get sassy!
FAIR WARNING
If you’re looking for a traditional dining experience, you’ve gotten yourself into a boatload of trouble. Quirky servers in flashy costumes serve up great burgers, jumbo wieners, cheese fries, huge salads, milkshakes, and ice cream sundaes – all delivered to your glittery booth with a side order of sass. Don’t expect this diner to be a “Please” and “Thank You” kind of place, or you might just get your feelings hurt! The servers are encouraged to create characters – ranging from jocks, to beauty school dropouts, to greasers, to nerds – and are even known to drop their trays and break into choreographed dance numbers on top of the soda counters!
Ok… but who is Ed?
Little Eddie Debevic was a small town Midwestern boy with a big city dream! Ed dreamt of a world where fun prevailed, and growing up didn’t mean life had to get boring. As a teen, he got a job at Lil’s Diner, a modest burger & breakfast joint in the heart of a sleepy town. It was at Lil’s Diner where he fell in love with restaurants, and learned all about the word SASS. The years went by, and Ed knew it was time to start a journey of his own. This journey led him to Chicago, where he worked his tail off, and eventually opened Ed Debevic’s!
As all tall tales do, the story of Ed Debevic goes much deeper. It’s filled with love, friendship, heartbreak, perseverance, and most importantly, the world’s smallest sundae. Read the very true story of Eddie Debevic HERE.
